Air Bubble: the voice of a room Elva Lai 2017 500 blue plastic balls, printed stickers and nails openspacezeitz.de
“Air Bubble: the voice of a room” talks about the memory of a room. As stated in the initiative of the project Open Space: “The small town of Zeitz was severely affected by de-industrialization after German reunification. The city lost half of its inhabitants, the streets of the city are still uninhabited.” I am interested in the human traces left in a deteriorating building and I wonder what will be reminded in the memory of a room? By using 500 light blue plastic balls falling and floating all over a deteriorating room signifies floating air around the room and on those small balls, there are small words we used in daily conversations such as “Hmm..”, “Ähm…”, “Oha!”, “Hmhm?”. It implies the existence of human activities of a room in the past.
